I don't disagree that Marin's A Spanish Repertoire for Black and Beating the Open Games are good books. The one big complaint that I have about the books is Marin's bibliography. That would be Emms' older "Play the Open Games as Black". The book under discussion here is "Beating 1.e4 e5", published this year, a repertoire for White built around the slow Italian with d3 and c3. In human terms White's position is unpleasant to play. Did Marin think he knew it all and didn't need to consult these sources? Marin didn't consult any other 1 e4 e5 repertoire books like The Ruy Lopez: A Guide for Black, Play 1 e4 e5, The Chess Advantage in Black and White, Play the Open Games as Black, etc, or Chesspublishing.com!
